Black Homesteader Project
The Oklahoma Black Homesteader Project explores the history and legacy of Black settlers who established communities in Oklahoma during the post-Civil War era. This research highlights their pursuit of land ownership and self-sufficiency amid systemic challenges and discrimination.
By uncovering personal narratives, land records, and community histories, the project aims to preserve and celebrate the stories of resilience, innovation, and cultural contributions that define Oklahoma's Black homesteading legacy. Through this work, the project seeks to foster greater awareness and understanding of the enduring impact of these pioneering individuals and communities.
